This role is responsible for providing back-office leadership and support for Perioperative and Procedural Services, managing processes related to financial & strategic planning, and process improvement activities. This position will oversee all internal initiatives such as OR scheduling team management, block scheduling management, OR utilization, timely processing of OR patient billing. Compiles and administers the annual capital budget with the leadership team. Facilitates equipment and supply purchases, maintains service contracts, develops supply contracts and prepares the annual operational budget with the assistance of Surgical Services management. The position works in collaboration with each of the hospitals' Service Line Administrators, Nursing Director, Surgical Director/Chair of surgery & Anesthesiology and Supply Chain, Sterile Processing, Patient Access, and Finance for operational related and strategic planning and process improvement. Duties and Responsibilities
• Performance Management: Recruit, hire, develop and retain highly engaged and competent staff. Orient and inform staff of performance standards and expectations. Manage, mentor, and evaluate assigned staff. Assure new hires are trained in operational standards. Engage staff in CPI work, including assessment and planning, setting goals and objectives, data collection and analysis, design, implementation and follow up. Participate in multidisciplinary and interdepartmental activities and serve as liaison to other areas of the organization.
• Financial Management: Lead strategic planning and goal setting, development of operational and capital budgets and capital acquisitions. Assess financial performance related to budget and goals; monitor and report on budget variances. Collaborate with finance and revenue cycle senior leadership to develop pricing models that generated targeted revenue. Implement systems which maximize appropriate charge capture. Develop, implement, and monitor processes and strategies to minimize costs and maximize revenues. Review and analyze expenditures globally and by procedures/services/service lines. Develop recommendations for cost reductions. Monitor adherence.
• Business Planning: Develop business plans for new or expanded services. Utilize CPI skills & concepts to continuously evaluate and improve existing systems. Collaborate with senior leaders for strategic planning & implementation; develop & implement best practices, improve the quality of service, and contribute to Perioperative & Surgical Services and other procedural areas growth. Continually assess operational objectives, & work processes to ensure alignment with strategic plan and financial business plan. • Policies and Quality Assessment: Develop, review, and maintain all policies regarding revenue and expense management to ensure compliance with organization goals and priorities and regulatory requirements. Develop and maintain department policies concerning billing.
• Reporting: Lead all aspects of data development and availability including leading the development of self-service tools for leadership. Provide data management and analytical support to Perioperative and Surgical Services leadership, clinical leaders, and Seattle Children’s senior leadership. Assure efficient use of systems and applications. Develop and maintain systems that integrate, compare, present and trend data related to productivity, initiatives, and daily operations. Professional/Personal Qualifications
• Eight (8) plus years' experience working in a large academic healthcare organization or system.
• Experience working within a Perioperative / OR environment.
• At least five (5) years' experience in analyzing, interpreting perioperative data to create, develop, and integrate information into presentations and visual systems for decision making.
• Three (3) years or more people leadership experience, including direct supervision of staff.
• Demonstrated experience in business planning, financial analysis and/or strategic planning.
• Demonstrated ability to lead in an environment of rapid change.
